I searched for the drivers of the Maximus V GENE -a relatively similar motherboard- and found that it is showing an updated V1.04.01 of the utility on the Windows 8 section. The utility version present for the IV downloads is version V1.0 (R11)

The utility is absent from the Windows 8 driver download. Running Windows 7 X64 as I was on the other MB.The Maximus IV Gene motherboard has support for the Sound Blaster X-Fi 2 Utility on the Windows 7 driver downloads. Nothing has changed from my previous MB setup other than the board and the drivers. I am wondering if the problem is the Realtek driver for the ALC1150, or MSI's version of it.

The included Cinema software only appears to alter the OFC audio jacks. So this software supports it, not sure why Tech Support thinks that the software will make the difference, when I cant even select 5.1 under the Digital Audio device output in Device Manager. I am using MPC-HC X64 software to watch movies on a Blu-Ray projector and have always had 5.1 audio using the optical out. You can get 5.1 from the audio optical output for video playback if you use a program like power DVD and the audio track is originally recorded in 5.1. the board will do 5.1 from the analog audio jacks only. It does come with the sound blaster Cinema an audio effect program. If i try to install the Dolby HD drivers for this board I get an error.ĭear Customer, the board does not have a sound blaster audio controller it has a Realtek audio controller. The old drivers allowed me to install the Dolby HD drivers from Realtek (DCC Win764 2.2.3 Dolby). Tempted to install the old R257 or R267 drivers. Not understanding if it is a MSI Realtek interface problem, or the drivers. I have run through all of the sound settings in Device Manager and can only select 2 channel audio on the Advanced tab for Realtek Digital Output. The MSI Realtek driver under the digital output only gives you the option for CD or DVD with no speaker options, like the Speaker setting does. I have an older Gig board with optical out, and the Realtek drivers that i used for that board had theater 5.1 options. I cannot get 5.1 audio from the optical S/PDIF Out, and figured this software might be the fix. I would expect that this software is included with the MPower boards as well. It is part of the software package included with the MB, and is for sale by Creative. No where does the Creative site say it is a external soundcard required software. Quote from Creative: The Sound Blaster X-Fi MB3 software suite is a powerful audio platform equipped with cutting-edge audio technology, offering premium audio quality, effects and features for ordinary PC systems equipped with only basic onboard audio. For anyone that says I do not have a SB card installed, my understanding is that this is not a driver, but software to enhance basic onboard audio on a motherboard. Has anyone else purchased this board and installed the XFI MB3 software from the included driver CD? I installed the software and it states that "There is no supported audio device available". New purchaser of the Z87-GD65 motherboard.
